The technology sector in Santa Catarina continues to demonstrate its strength, with over 100,000 employees in 2024, positioning itself as the third-largest state in Brazil in this segment. This significant number of professionals reflects the region's dynamism and ability to attract talent.

In addition to its representation, Santa Catarina has the third highest rate of technology employees per thousand jobs, reaffirming its position as the third largest in terms of presence in the technology sector.

With a growth of 3.4% in the last year, the total number of employees in the Brazilian technology sector went from 1.14 million in 2021 to 1.118 million in 2024.

Of these, approximately 38% are from the state of São Paulo, which totaled 449,300 employees. Next come the states of Minas Gerais (101,300 employees and a share of 8.6%) and Santa Catarina (100,400 employees and a share of 8.51%).

The state of SC surpasses Rio de Janeiro and becomes the 3rd largest hub for technology jobs, with around a thousand fewer jobs than Minas Gerais.

The growth of +7.2% is more than double the Brazilian average (+3.4%), second only to states with less expression in the sector.

Santa Catarina stands out in the national technology scene with more than 100 thousand employees, being the third largest state in number of professionals in the sector.

 

Greater Florianópolis (+10.6%) leads in employee growth, followed by Northern Santa Catarina (+7.1%), Southern Santa Catarina (+5.7%), and Vale do Itajaí (+3.7%). The Serrana and Oeste regions were the only ones that saw a decline in employee numbers.

Sector attractiveness

The technology sector also stands out as a highly attractive area for boosting the local economy and improving the quality of life of employees. With a rate of 39.5 technology jobs per thousand formal employees, the Santa Catarina technology sector has the third-largest presence in the overall workforce in Brazil, behind only Amazonas and the Federal District. This demonstrates the sector's high capacity for generating jobs and opportunities.

Furthermore, the average salary of employees in the technology sector in Santa Catarina in 2024 is twice that of the construction and commerce sectors in Santa Catarina.

In addition to its representation, the growth in the number of employees in the technology sector in Santa Catarina has been one of the main drivers of the state's economy in recent years.

 

Considering the initial date of 2007, Santa Catarina continues to consolidate itself as a technology hub, with a growing base of professionals driving the sector, reaching a growth rate of 370%.

Greater Florianópolis, which accounts for 54.8% of the state's total workforce, saw the largest increase in job numbers this year (+10%), reflecting its central role in technological and economic development.

 

Northern Santa Catarina (+7.1%) and the Itajaí Valley (+9.8%) also saw significant growth, with the creation of new job opportunities boosting the local economy. These regions have benefited from strategic investments and a robust innovation ecosystem, attracting companies and talent.
